Background
As the result of a contribution by the Rotary Club of North Melbourne, two scholarships of $1,000 have been funded for members of the African community in 2011 and 2012. One scholarship was awarded in 2011.
Applications will be sought through Kangan Institute of TAFE (Broadmeadows campus). Information about the scholarships will also be offered to other African Community referral agencies.
Scholarship Funding
One (1) scholarship of $1,000 will be available for an eligible African student in 2012.
Funding is intended for –
tuition fees
materials fees
equipment, books and other study support approved by the Board of Trustees, eg laptop computer, kits, uniforms
travel assistance
Eligibility
Applications made on the African Community Scholarship Application Form available below or from the Executive Officer - ccef@chisholm.edu.au - will be accepted from those who meet the following requirements:
Mandatory
African country of birth
Certificate III in ESL level of English as a minimum
economic barriers to further study
resident in the areas of North Melbourne/Flemington/Kensington
and have experienced at least one of the following –
individual or family adversity or
excessive relocation or changes of school or
relocation as a refugee or
disadvantage in accessing further education
Applicants must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, hold a permanent humanitarian visa, or with the exception of degrees, be eligible for a Government subsidised place
Holders of a Low Income Card are encouraged to apply
NOTE: It is strongly advised that applicants indicate clearly on the Application Form any disadvantages to further study, which may include current or lifetime experiences.
