The aim of the Department of Justice in conjunction with the Victoria Police is to encourage students from a diversity of cultures to undertake the preparatory course with the intention of ultimate employment as police officers, sheriffs and corrections officers.
The Department has committed to donate $4,000 to the Caroline Chisholm Education Foundation to fund the bursaries. The bursaries will be available to students from a disadvantaged background who without financial assistance, may be required to abandon further studies. Ideally, the students will be seeking to undertake the Victorian Police Education Entrance Exam on completion of the preparatory program.
Funding is intended to cover course fees of $240 for eight (8) students in 2012 and eight (8) students in 2013 or equivalent numbers each year as required.
This bursary will be available to students studying the Occupational Preparatory Program of ten (10) weeks duration at Chisholm Institute.
